Historical Archives receives laboratory for restoration of written material

SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) – The Sarajevo Historical Archives received a workshop for the restoration of written material where will be repaired damaged manuscripts and historical documents from the period of Ottoman rule.

This was carried out within the framework of the project “Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the Balkans” which is the result of cooperation between the Yunus Emre Institute and the Sarajevo Historical Archives.

“The donation that we have received, together with the BiH Archives and the HNC Archives, is the room for treatment of documents (restoration and conservation),” the Historical Archives Direc tor, Fuad Ohranović, told FENA.

He explains that, as part of the same project, it was planned that one employee of the Archives is sent to education to Turkey, in an aim to have a more efficient and better use of donated laboratory.

“Damage to the documents were not caused by poor handling in the Archives, but only by eroding by time, but one can also speak of the conditions in which the archives are kept,” he stressed.

The Yunus Emre Institute is carrying out the project “Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the Balkans”, under the auspices of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Ministry of Development. Three separate laboratories for the restoration of the written material will be set up in BiH (in the BiH Archives, the Historical Archives and the Archives of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton).
